RealScoop Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL

What is RealScoop?

  • RealScoop is a highly-entertaining social community for people who love celebrities, athletes, and politicians – but hate SPIN.
  • RealScoop streams online videos of the most popular US news events and simultaneously displays the results on our proprietary Believability Meter™, in order to give our members the information they need to uncover the RealScoop.
  • RealScoop has developed the Believability Meter™, which rates the believability of what people say. The Believability Meter utilizes the world’s leading Voice Analysis Technology that analyzes over 100 vocal elements of the human voice and performs over 1,000 calculations per second. It is widely used in various industries including law enforcement.
  • We combine the best technology with the coolest celebrity, sports and political content to provide a one-of-a kind experience for our community.

How does it measure believability?

  • RealScoop utilizes the world’s leading voice analysis technology. Analyzing over 100 vocal elements, we provide our community with the information needed to see through the talking points, prepared statements, PR handlers and general blah blah that floats endlessly over the airwaves and the Internet.
  • RealScoop uses the Believability Meter to rate the believability of what people say, and displays the amount of spin associated with each statement, ranging from Believable to Highly Questionable, simultaneously below the video and audio content.
  • The Believability Meter ignores the actual content or words of the conversation and focuses entirely on the changes in the voice frequency patterns caused when the speaker experiences different emotions at the time they are making the statements. The Believability Meter can measure and analyze patterns in voice frequencies, which provide an in-depth view into the person’s range of emotions and then displays the results simultaneously with the video and audio.

TECHNOLOGY

How does the voice analysis technology work?

  • We have created the Believability Meter™, which rates the believability of what people say. It utilizes the world’s leading Voice Analysis Technology that analyzes over 100 vocal elements of the human voice and performs over 1,000 calculations per second. It is widely used in various industries including law enforcement.
  • During the voice analysis process, the Believability Meter ignores the actual content or words of the conversation and focuses entirely on the changes in the voice frequency patterns caused when the speaker experiences different emotions at the time they are making the statements.
  • The Believability Meter can measure and analyze patterns in voice frequencies, which provide an in-depth view into the person’s range of emotions. The results are then displayed right below the video and audio simultaneously with the statements being made.
  • The core technology is used around the world for airport security, insurance fraud prevention, intelligence-gathering and law enforcement investigations. But what fun is that??? We combine the best technology with the coolest celebrity, sports and political content to provide a one-of-a kind experience for our community.

What kind of analysis does it do on people’s believability levels?

  • RealScoop uses the Believability Meter to rate the believability of what people say, and displays the amount of spin associated with the statement made, ranging from Believable to Highly Questionable, simultaneously below the video and audio content.
  • During the voice analysis process, the Believability Meter ignores the actual content or words of the conversation and focuses entirely on the changes in the voice frequency patterns caused when the speaker experiences different emotions at the time they are making the statements. The technology can measure and analyze patterns in voice frequencies, which provide an in-depth view into the person’s range of emotions. The Believability Meter results are displayed simultaneously with the streaming video or audio.
  • Our technology uses sophisticated algorithms to identify, measure, and analyze patterns imbedded in the actual waveform of human speech.

What affects the results of the Believability Meter other than the voice itself?

  • The results displayed are based on the voice only. Nothing other than the voice impacts the Believability Meter output on the site. We make every effort to remove any extraneous noises. If there is a noise that is not part of the speaker’s voice, we remove it from the analysis. It is important to note, however, that the speaker's voice and pitch do not influence the Believability Meter.

Why do we sometimes see the Believability Meter in action when no words have been spoken or before anyone has began to speak?

  • The Believability Meter is set on an approximately ¼ second delay in order for it to appear quickly following a statement, without being too soon or too late. The software cuts the audio into 2 - 5 segments for its analysis. The reason we see the Believability Meter occasionally move slightly before someone speaks is that the software sometimes combines segments within the Believability Meter.  This is done to optimize the synchronization of the Believability Meter but can occasionally result in the meter being a split second too fast or slow.

How come the Believability Meter rates a speaker’s believability when all that was said was Uh-huh, Hmmm or any other vocal element that does not constitute words?

  • As stated above, we do our best to remove all of these vocal elements from the analysis. However, an important aspect to remember about the Believability Meter is that it is assessing the conflict between what a person is thinking and what they are saying. So, it is possible for someone to be thinking about what they are going to say and to cover that pause with a ”hmmm” or an “ahhh” and that may come up as part of the analysis. The intention behind the “hmmm” or “ahhh” would (either spin or a believable statement) would be reflected in the Believability Meter.

  • Unfortunately not. The decision not to publish a clip can be based on various reasons including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Clip is longer than 10 minutes

  • There is too much background noise in order to perform the analysis

  • People in the clip are talking over each other in a fast fashion

  • The clip is not in English

  • The subject is not relevant to the site's character

  • The speaker is not famous enough

  • There is no clear statement or claim that can be analyzed

  • Clip was not created in the US and/or covers a topic which is international

Can I submit my own voice files to be Scooped?

  • Soon you will be able to upload you own audio or video to be Scooped and returned back to you privately in a new feature we are working on, called Scoop It.

MISCELLANEOUS

How accurate is the Believability Meter?

  • The Believability Meter has a good history of being accurate in the general believability of people's statements. However, many factors including audio quality, audio compression, and transmission platforms can impact the results. In order to show how the Believability Meter performs over time, we have created the Report Card, which indicates how the Believability Meter performed for each video where the outcome is known.

Is it scientifically proven?

  • There are patents, academic studies, scientific experiments, and commercial applications of the core technology, which are used around the world for airport security, insurance fraud prevention, intelligence-gathering and law enforcement investigations.

Isn’t the technology actually lie detection software?

  • The core technology is patented to measure the emotion contained in speech by using sophisticated algorithms to measure and analyze patterns in the frequencies of the human voice.

Can this be used by people for lie detection?

  • No, RealScoop is simply evaluating how believable speakers’ statements are based upon the emotions contained in the speech, for entertainment purposes.

Is the Believability Meter based on Voice Stress Analysis?

  • No, RealScoop does not use Voice Stress Analysis. RealScoop uses several other advanced technologies to deliver our services.
