Analysis
In this November 5th interview at the Web 2.0 conference, Jerry Yang, co-founder of Yahoo, talks about his decision last year to become CEO, and the negotiations with Microsoft that have been stalled since last spring. The Believability Meter in this video shows clearly that despite his claim to the contrary, Yang has some regrets about the way things have gone at Yahoo, perhaps having something to do with reports that Microsoft abandoned its bid to buy the internet search giant due to personality conflicts with Yang. In any event, Yang's dedication to the company and to Yahoo's employees seems genuine in this video. In the interview, Yang even says that as co-founder people have told him he is too close to the company to make tough decisions, and surprising recent events may have borne that out. On November 18th, Yang announced he was stepping aside as CEO, reportedly at the behest of Yahoo's board, in a move widely interpreted as a conciliatory gesture toward Microsoft in hopes of reviving a deal.
