Analysis

Joe Biden and Sarah Palin chase each other around the stage on energy policy here, culminating with Biden's claim that he and Barack Obama want to give all of the American people $1000 the way Palin did in Alaska. The only problem, according to Biden, is that John McCain opposes a national windfall profits tax that Palin supported in her home state.

The Believability Meter thinks that may not be the only problem though, spiking red when Biden talks about his $1000 handout. Most likely that spike is because Palin's tax came after she gave oil companies ample room to drill. Biden knows that if the federal government blocks drilling and hinders supply then it's going to be difficult to impose any new taxes on the industry.
