Analysis

Barack Obama reacts to reports that Illinois governor, "Hot" Rod Blagojevich, was arrested on federal corruption charges relating to attempts to sell Obama's Senate seat. In this interview video, Obama seems intent to convey that his staff is not implicated in the scandal, but he may be stretching the truth to do that.

The Believability Meter goes red when Obama claims he had "no contact with the Governor," but then stays green when Obama says that he was "not aware" of the scheme. Most likely, Barack Obama has spoken to Blagojevich since capturing the Presidency. And he almost certainly knows his character from their political work together in the past.

Maybe Obama recognizes that the loss of the corrupt governor is a net gain for the state of Illinois, and the Democratic Party in general. But, is Obama hiding anything here?
