Michael Phelps, eight time Olympic Gold Medal winner in Beijing, talks in this video interview about the uproar surrounding recent pictures of him smoking marijuana. Phelps is very upset by the controversy, though he tries to put on a brave front.

The Believability Meter sees through the facade, going red on several comments. Especially early on when Phelps claims to be doing "as good as [he] can" and at the end when he says the best thing is to "learn from your mistakes."  Soon after this interview, Kellogs dropped its sponsorship of Phelps citing his behavior as inconsistent with the company's image. Perhaps the real question here is why no one has pointed out how impressive it is that a pothead just won eight Gold Medals in one Olympics. Did I miss something or is weed now a performance-enhancing drug?
