Analysis

John McCain sits down with 60 Minutes to discuss Sarah Palin, and the perception that his campaign is hiding her from the media. Right away, the Believability Meter shows red as McCain tries to explain her inaccessibility as simply a coincidence of their busy combined campaign schedule.

Things get really interesting (read: questionable) when McCain claims that he selected Gov. Palin after carefully examining her record. He says that "The times now require reform and change." Ironically though, "change" did not become a central tenet of McCain's campaign strategy until after the addition of Palin took national political experience off the table. The Believability Meter isn't buying McCain's transparent attempt to out-Obama the Democrats, and promptly goes right off the charts.

Most telling of all is the Believability Meter's green light when McCain says he could see Palin as President. Apparently, he believes she already has what it takes, and is clearly smitten by the political fervor surrounding her ascendance.
