John McCain in a video interview on Larry King talking about his former running mate, Sarah Palin. McCain goes to great lengths here to keep the tone civil, claiming that he and Palin are close friends, despite her recent jabs at his staff. Palin has said that she was mishandled during the campaign and she has made no secret that she blames John McCain's staff for the problems.
The Believabilty Meter says all may not be as rosy as McCain claims. The readings spike red throughout this video interview, from McCain's claims to be "honored" that Palin ran with him to his professions of "undying" respect and friendship for the Alaska governor. Do you think McCain is trying to keep the Republican Party from fracturing even further by refusing to alientate the often-controversial Governor Palin?

It's obvious that Mr. McCain had a tough job handling the Alaskan "maverick". He confirms in this interview what we knew at the time about the tension within the campaign. He took a gamble, didn't fully vet her, and ultimately it cost him an opportunity to be president of the United States. Maybe it confirms what the experts say about the first important signal of how someone would perform as president is their pick of a running mate.
