Analysis

Earlier this year we ran a full interview with Illinois Governor Blagojevich back when he was running for re-election in 2006 and we found this short exchange at the end  A reporter asks him a question about an article that ran in the Chicago Sun-Times that alleged certain insiders had been shaking down companies for political contributions to his campaign.

The Believability Meter starts off right away flagging his answer that he "would be happy to talk about that."  The Governor then stalls for a moment before laying out three carefully worded "facts": 1) no one from his campaign solicted money from the company 2) his campaign never received money from the company and 3) Stuart Levine is not to be believed (even though he pled guilty to these charges later that year).  The Believabilty Meter was checking these "facts" well before the US Attorney began drafting his 76 page indictment on Blagojevich.
