In this video clip, Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, discusses the internet search engine giant's plans to diversify its market share by drilling for geothermal heat. Considering Google's vested interest, Schmidt may have somewhat of an agenda here, and the Believability Meter doesn't buy his claims that geothermal energy-production technology is at the point where it will soon be "mainstream." Perhaps the discrepancy in this video can be explained by his stated desire that the federal government should give Google money for research and development related to the technology. Seeing as Google's founders are multi-billionaires, it does seem strange that they can't find sufficient private capital to fund such a promising alternative energy source. How's your bailout coming?
