GM CEO, Rick Wagoner, has his work cut out for him during a second trip to testify on Capitol Hill. In this video, Wagoner tries to simultaneously convince lawmakers that not only is GM positioning itself for the future with competitive wages, products and "green jobs," but that even though Wagoner has played a major role in the labor and production decisions leading GM to the verge of collapse, his management team can still make the required adjustments if the government will just buy them a little more time. Unfortunately, the Believability Meter doesn't think Wagoner is being totally candid about the viability of his newest vision for GM's future, most likely because Wagoner thinks he already has GM on the path to success. It's an open kept secret that legislators have been less than thrilled with Wagoner's performance, and take a dim view of his current penchant for blaming a suddenly weak economy for viability problems that have been slowly eating GM's market share for decades. In a particularly shrewd move though, Wagoner and his board made their jobs much less attractive to other qualified candidates by dropping their salaries to $1 per year in hopes of appearing penitent. Still, after watching these hearings, it's hard to say if Wagoner's even worth that. Would you pay him to balance your checkbook?
