Analysis

Bill and Melinda Gates take a moment to congratulate themselves in this video interview from the world economic forum in Davos, Switzerland. According to Melinda, the Gates Foundation has been extremely successful at guilting governments into maintaining their level of support for African countries like Zambia and Zimbabwe, despite the global financial crisis.

The Believability Meter thinks Melinda is sincere in this video, except on two key points. When she claims that "aid" has been making "real progress" the Believability Meter flashes red. Perhaps that is because "real progress" is notoriously hard to measure in such programs, which is part of the reason they often lead to enormous waste of the hard-earned tax dollars that compose them. Also, when Melinda claims there are "a million" children suffering from malaria in Africa, the Believability Meter says she probably just made up that number for sympathetic effect. How much do you appreciate Bill and Melinda's tireless efforts to help Congress spend your money for you?
