Defying Democratic Party leaders, U.S. Senators and common sense, Rod Blagojevich appoints a replacement to the very Senate seat he is charged with soliciting bribes for earlier this month. Ostensibly this is because, as Blagojevich says, if he doesn't make the appointment the people of Illinois will be "deprived of their voice" in the Senate.
The Believability Meter goes red on that one, most likely because Blagojevich knows as well as anyone else that there will be a pair of pants in that seat come January, whether he chooses them or not. Also interesting is the Believability Meter's reaction when Blagojevich calls his choice, Roland Burris, a man of integrity. Apparently there is more going on here than first meets the eye. Should Governor Blagojevich be forced out of office or is he still innocent until proven guilty?
