Analysis

Arnold Schwarzenegger, the governor of California, acknowledges in this video interview that the time has come for a debate about legalizing marijuana. Schwarzenegger's state is facing an unprecedented budget crisis that could leave California bankrupt come July. In that context, it's no surprise the governator is looking for additional revenue streams.

Of course, the Believability Meter seems to be under the impression that Schwarzenegger would rather not get into this issue at all. He seems to be reluctant to have the debate, but in the long run, marijuana prohibition costs the state billions in enforcement costs and lost revenue. Not even Arnold can ignore that. Has the time come to have the legalization debate on a national level as well?
